hi, 

without the rest of the score, this is what i make of the sentence:

- you select your favorite "x" (some might make more sense to you than others) ...here it would help to know the rest of the score...

- then you number these events/indications/descriptions one after another: "1", "2", "3", "4" etc.

- this numbering then determines in which order the "events" will be performed...
