A few other artists/pieces spring to mind off the top of the head: Jacob Kirkegaard uses natural phenomena such as in Eldfjall which uses geothermal recordings of vibrations in the ground in Iceland and Francisco Lopez in pieces such as La Selva and Belle Confusion 969 uses field recordings from the tropical rain forests. Of course! Messiaen, his love for the birds whistles and his attempt to imitate them in the music realm came to mind too. Speaking of the music/nature relation, I'd like to suggest the name Mario Bertoncini who worked with sounds produced by the wind. He set up massive aeolian harps (7mt high) in order to create long drones. http://www.dieschachtel.com/editions/ds15.htm Cheers Stefano |
