If we lived in a culture where positive consent was the norm, the person in the story might be more inclined to call it a wrong, violation, assault or rape.  Sounds like "nonconsensual sex" simply feels better for her to state, especially about a friend.  For now, we have policies and laws defining consent, but the norm of checking in with someone verbally before you have sex with them and making sure they are fully aware and present to make that choice (i.e not drunk) has not sunk in- yet.  Until then, people will question what happened.  There are lots of things to unpack in this article, including the societal embedded attraction of being drawn to the "bad boy," and feeling bad when you are attracted because you may realize it contributes to further objectification, feeling bad about intimate acts (everything from kissing to intercourse) that is not consensual every step of the way....I will share this with our students also!

Colleagues,

One of my student peer educators showed this to me and doesn’t know what to make of it or how to respond to the things it talks about. Have you seen this? What would you tell someone?
