To respond to a couple of topics that have been cycling on this list serv, we have hosted a speaker a couple times who uses the rape prevention tips email -- that exact email -- in his campus presentations (and has been doing so for several years). He asks the audience how many of them have ever received the email, and many have. He goes through the list of "tips" to point out & de-bunk the rape myths which are underlying these tips.

He talks about the pressure placed upon women & any potential victim to make sure they don't get raped versus the societal pressure on would-be rapists not to commit this crime. Then he goes beyond just the email forward and discusses societal perspectives on rape that come up in the media and what topics are circulating within the student culture -- for example, the debate/confusion between "regretted sex" and rape. He winds up by focussing on effective sexual communication -- discussing what consent is and what it isn't and the importance of clear communication around consent. He addresses the role of men in preventing sexual assault.

If you ever want to bring him to your own campus, his name is terry lilley (he chooses not to capitalize).
