Agreed.

I also very much like the long pauses and then sudden sporadic episodes (all very Cagean:).

+1 for mailing list rather than a forum.  These sudden bursts of activity where I'm learning and interested in stuff I didn't know about, is most often a welcome distraction and often leads to fresh insights and stimulus for my own practice.

Without hopefully causing any offense to the willing unsubscribers there are umpteen different ways to not be receiving list-traffic (go to your subscription details, you know - the place you joined from in the 1st place, hit the spam button on your email client, find your own creative solution, etc. etc.).  It's easy.
