Hi Elizabeth,

Northwestern has a separate board called our Sexual Assault Hearing and Appeals System.  These board members are comprised of students, faculty & staff and have to go through a 12 hour training in order to serve.

Here is a quick link to get more info, but I am happy to share more if you’d like to contact me directly.

Subject: Judicial board specifically for sexual misconduct cases

We are in the process of reviewing and revising our conduct code and sexual assault policy.  One part of this is to create a separate judicial board to hear sexual misconduct cases.  I’ve been looking at policies and procedures from a variety of schools and haven’t seen any that are doing this.  I’m wondering if any of you have formal or informal hearing boards for sexual misconduct cases.  If so can you share your policy or procedure that talks about it?    I’m especially  interested to see anything you have set up about qualifications of the board members, how they are (chosen) appointed, and any training requirements.

Thanks

-Liz
