Subject: mandated assault training

Hi Joann,
Here at University of North Carolina Wilmington, we've been doing a mandated
90 minute safety session with emphasis on sexual assault and relationship
abuse and other information on stalking, AOD use.  Our sessions are currently
mandated for all incoming first year students and are gender-specific.  The
Women's session is led by women from CARE, Substance Abuse prevention and a
University Police investigator--all women.  The Men's session is led by men
from CARE, Residence Life and a University Police investigator--all men.
Both sessions are interactive with role-players and discussion.  There is
also a mandated "booster" session for all athletes--new or ongoing
students--each year.

Also, we have had mandated sessions for all Residence Assistants (2 sessions)
and Orientation Leaders (1 session) for many years.

We have a new Dept. of Justice Violence Against Women Campus Grant with which
we will enlarge the mandated audience to all new students, including transfer
and graduate students. We may also be able to extend mandated sessions to
other student orgs.

Hope this is helpful,
