I am loving the idea of pitching an article.  First on my wish list would be
something that addresses the ways assaults really happen.  In my opinion
this has been a striking absence and would help people understand that rape
and a bad hook-up are two different things.  If research from Lisak,
Thompson and Salter could be combined with personal accounts, I think it
would go a long way to clarifying for people who don't work with survivors,
what is really happening.
Anyone know a writer who wants to take this on?

A suggestion.

I doubt that a this point - already a couple weeks since the MacDonald piece
- that the LA Times would publish another opinion piece.  Not timely.  And
already been done.  

BUT how about instead you consider pitching a feature story to them -
ideally with some new/unique/interesting twist - that would get them
interested in covering the work that is going on on campuses?

Dear Colleagues,

I am in agreement with those who believe that a response to Heather 
MacDonald's unfounded assertions is important. And it is not 
difficult.  Citing the research from Dr. Koss's response is all that 
is needed. As Claire suggests, an organized response might be the 
most effective. I am disappointed that CALCASA has chosen not to 
respond. As a member of CALCASA and a rape prevention educator on a 
college campus since 1979, I would have appreciated the opportunity 
to weigh in on this decision.

It's never ok in my opinion to let demagogues have the last word. In 
the early days it was difficult to convince folks of the seriousness 
and extent of rape on college campuses because research was scarce. 
Now we have bodies of research supporting the pioneering work of Mary 
Koss. Lets use it!
