This is a reference to "Crime at College: The Student Guide to Personal
Safety" by Curtis Ostrander and Joseph Schwartz. Page 74 of the book
contains the following statement...
"Students are most likely to become victims of sexual assault during their
first few weeks at college, when they make the transition from the security
of their parents' home to the less-restricted lifestyle of a dormitory.
Another time of increased vulnerability is during the first few weeks of
sophomore year, when many make the transition from dormitory to off-campus
apartments, sororities, and fraternities."
While Andrea Parrot is quoted in surrounding paragraphs, the book offers
absolutely no attribution for this specific finding. It does not claim to
quote her, or anybody else as saying this. Ostrander is a police officer,
and Schwartz is a journalist, so while they obviously have extensive
anecdotal references, as do we, they weren't citing any actual study.
