Hey All,

Below is a list of officer positions that are available for the next school year and their descriptions. I encourage you all to apply! Know that we don't expect or require experience, just enthusiasm.

If interested in a spot, email me back at  by 5 pm Sunday the 17th with your name and the position(s) you are interested in .

It would also be nice if you wrote a paragraph about what you would like to do, why you want to be an officer, or experience that is relevant, but it's not mandatory. I despise such prompts as "what does being a leader of the VAA mean to you?", so I won't inflict it on you.

Officer Positions:

Public Relations:

The Public Relation
officer uses media and communication to build, maintain and manage the reputation of the club. The officer communicates key messages, advertises the club and its events to the student body and Charlottesville residents. The officer develops and implements public relation strategies, and liaises with individuals and other organizations.

Philanthropy:

The role of the Service and Philanthropy
Officer is to coordinate various activities with the objective of either serving the wider community or raising money for a secular philanthropy. Such activities serve the dual purposes of service in our communities and cultivating a positive image of atheists and agnostics in society as a whole.

Social:

Social chair plans bi-monthly social meetings, coordinates outside social events (e.g parties, hikes, movie nights). In essence, the SC fosters the community aspect of the club. This includes creating a social atmosphere that is welcoming to new members. In performance, this includes friendly greetings to new people, providing food and comfortable atmosphere at meetings, being approachable, managing the first year liaisons, and "watching out" for and avoiding exclusivity and during official
VAA functions.

Treasurer:

The treasurer oversees
VAA funding. This includes maintaining a bank account and ensuring that the account has enough money to cover approved expenses. It also includes obtaining funding from the university as needed, ensuring that the funds are spent appropriately, and collecting receipts for reimbursement. It is the responsibility of the treasurer to inform the club if a planned activity is not financially feasible and to ensure that all income (such as from dues, donations, and fundraising) is immediately deposited in the club bank account.

Social Media:

The Social Media Officer manages the club's facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/VirginiaAtheistsAndAgnostics), twitter (@AtheistsAtUVA), and wordpress (http://atheistsatuva.wordpress.com/). It is the duty of the social media officer to post updates regularly from the Facebook page and Twitter about upcoming events or relevant news stories. The purpose of these media is to maintain a public presence online and to keep the membership up to date on club activities and goings on in the secular movement.

Conference Chair:

The
Conference Chair has two functions. One is to connect members to the broader secular movement by informing them of secular conferences and events and coordinating trips to some of those conferences. This includes the Secular Student Alliance conference. The other function is to organize a conference at UVa, to bring secular students and non-students from across Virginia to UVa to meet and learn from each other. A committee will likely be established for this purpose.
