As a longtime lurker who very much enjoys the list, might I suggest that brief unsubscribe instructions be appended as a footer on all messages? I'm not familiar with the listserve software this list uses, but would think that functionality is available, and is standard for other lists with which I am familiar.

Dear Lisa,

I believe that you have to unsubscribe yourself, asking to be unsubscribed wont result in this happening. A list member posted the relevant instructions a couple of days ago:

List-Help: <mailto:?subject=help>
List-Subscribe: <mailto:?subject=subscribe silence>
List-Unsubscribe: <mailto:?subject=unsubscribe silence>

To unsubscribe you need to send an email to , with "unsubscribe silence" written in the subject field at the head of the email. You must email from the email address that is subscribed to the list. Alternatively, visit https://lists.virginia.edu/sympa/arc/silence, log in, and click unsubscribe.

Unfortunately asking to be unsubscribed did nothing and it's been a slew of unsubscribe emails and speculation as to why all day. Can someone please tell me how to unsubscribe? I love John Cage but I don't want to receive all these emails.

I would be very grateful if someone would really, truly unsubscribe me.

Many thanks,
Lisa

I was thinking the same thing, except that now that the people who could tell us are gone. I also thought about sending a message that says, "Please keep me subscribed."
