Congratulations on the 49waltzes.com site!

I also would like to remind the Silence list of the video realization of the "49 Waltzes" made by Don Gillespie (Cage's close colleague at C.F. Peters, his publisher), filmmaker Roberta Friedman and Gene Caprioglio (currently at C.F. Peters) on mode 204 DVD (http://www.moderecords.com/catalog/204cage.html).

Between 1994-95, they
videotaped each of the 147 locations indicated in the score. An impartial rotating camera was used to capture every location, the durations of each determined by the I-Ching. The result is a "time-capsule" view of New York City from those years, a combination of spirited and zen-like visuals accompanied by the dynamic and musical soundtrack of the city's natural environment.

Fun to compare then with the now of the new website too. How NY has changed!

Dear silencers,

I'm writing to introduce a very exciting new project my organization has built. This is an online, interactive realization of John Cage's wonderful 49 Waltzes for The Five Boroughs

Created by designer Oscar Henriquez and myself, we launched the site on John's birthday as a special tribute to his 100th year, and a living soundscore to the city of New York.

We invite you to browse around, listen, and go out to one or any of these 147 addresses and send us what you hear.

There is a big map of all 147 addresses living here: http://49waltzes.com/waltz-finder.php

and more about the project can be found here: http://49waltzes.com/about.php

I hope you enjoy,

Randy
