Yes, Richard. Watts did say this to some extent and I'm very familiar with his statement

being that I have all of the lectures and most of the books and even had a chance to meet him

in '72 (my introduction to Cage personally who was there too!)

I'm speaking about a rather recent article that I read - within the past couple of months

from a fellow of whom I cannot recall the name right now. I remember being rather irritated

by the step-by-step dismantling of Cage's understanding of Buddhism and Zen in particular.

I'll see if I can recall the author (a Japanese or Chinese fellow?) and article and post more info.
