Subject: Take Back The Night 2020 - Coronavirus Update

Hi Take Back The Night Event Holders and 10 Points of Light 2020,

Thank you first for your dedication and commitment to supporting survivors and working to raise awareness.

As the Coronavirus has impacted all of us, and we are not likely going to see changes in policies regarding public events with numbers greater than 10 in the foreseeable future, we wanted to provide some ideas for alternative ways to support survivors and have virtual TBTN Events, if you would still like to reach out to your communities.  If anyone would like to share more ideas, please go ahead and share with me, Amanda and Catherine---we will save all submissions and then I’ll send the back out to our group.  Please send your ideas along by Monday, March 22nd!

Here are some ways to host a Virtual Events:

  1. Create a Facebook Event (read how here: https://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/virtual-facebook-event/)
  2. Use a webinar platform, like GoToWebinar to host an event.

If you host a virtual event, consider the following ideas:

  1. Include the presenters, panelists and speakers you were planning for your in-person event on the virtual event.
  2. Instead of lighting candles or glowsticks, consider having everyone type in their “GLOWING thought of support” for survivors.
  3. Read poems, survivor stories, have groups sing, etc. over the live-cast.

Finally, make sure to have ways to support your attendees by considering the following:

  1. Have a counselor (or several) available via a phone or live chat throughout the session and for another hour afterward.
  2. Send out a list of resources for support and medical care in your area both before and after the virtual session.
  3. Make attendee know they can log off/out at any time during the session.
  4. Offer a moment of meditation and/or grounding at the start and end of the session.

Additionally, the TBTN Foundation will be holding a Live Web-Event on Thursday, April 30th from 8-9pm EST.  We can hold 3000 people in the web-cast.  Here’s the link to confirm a spot:https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/7456705746290607883?source=Event+Holders

The Live Event will feature survivors, poetry, activists and more!  We hope you’ll join this Global Live Event!

Final news:  We will be adding all new Event Holders to the TBTNF site within the next 2 weeks.

Thank you again for your support!

Sincerely,

Katie Koestner
