CONVERSATION DESCRIPTION: What messages are boys and men typically taught about self-care? How well do those messages serve boys and men? How are self-care and healthy masculinity connected? How does boys and men practicing self-care serve them and everyone else? How can we best teach young men and boys' self-care? How can boys and men practice self-care now during this time of the coronavirus and sheltering-in-place? These questions and more will be discussed by members of the Men Can Stop Rape staff.

CONVERSATIONALISTS’ BIOS
Patrick McGann, Ph.D., as Men Can Stop Rape’s Director of Strategy & Planning, creates effective long and short term strategy and planning for current and future developments regarding mobilizing men for gender-based violence prevention. He has managed large-scale federal projects for the Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women. In 2008, he co-authored a comprehensive Sexual Assault Prevention Strategy for the U.S. Department of Defense. Dr. McGann has overseen the development of public service announcement (PSA) campaigns that have been recognized as the nation's best-designed and most effective sexual-assault-prevention PSA outreach to men and boys. He played a key role in planning and implementing the 2012 Healthy Masculinity Action Project, a national multi-year initiative that reached more than 60,000,000 people with its positive messages and launched an international healthy masculinity movement.
Greerlin Thomas is a program manager for Men Can Stop Rape's (MCSR) Training and Technical Assistance Department. For more than a decade, he has served MCSR in multiple ways, such as facilitating MCSR’s award-winning Men of Strength Clubs at the middle school, high school, and university levels, conducting trainings across the country, and developing new training and curriculum sessions. Greerlin has extensive experience providing federal training and technical assistance (TTA) to federal grantees in the Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) Campus Program and the Department of Health and Human Services, Office on Women’s Health (OWH) Campus Sexual Assault Policy and Prevention (CSAPP) Initiative. Fulfilling MCSR’s role as the Engaging Men TA Provider for the OVW Campus Program, he provided expert training and guidance to more than 150 college campus grantees from across the country, from community colleges to liberal arts schools to faith-based institutions to historically black universities and colleges to small and large state schools. He also created training materials for campus grantees to use in efforts to more effectively engage LGBTQ campus men in primary prevention with measurable outcomes. He is a co-author of a study about MCSR’s OWH DMV CSAPP initiative that will appear in Health Education & Behavior. His M.A. is from American University.
Daniel Glover is a coordinator within Men Can Stop Rape’s Youth Development and Training & Technical Assistance departments. Through his role, Daniel facilitates trainings locally and nationally, MOST Club weekly sessions at Washington, DC public high schools, and workshops at community events. A native South Carolinian, he moved to DC after gaining his Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health from the University of South Carolina in 2017. Following a year of service with City Year Washington, DC (AmeriCorps), Daniel chose to employ the skills he gained as a former peer health educator, fraternity president, and researcher to further the mission of MCSR.
Will Harris, a veteran MOST Club member and native Washingtonian, serves Men Can Stop Rape (MCSR) as a Training and Technical Assistance Coordinator. In this role, Will works closely with MCSR’s Training and Technical Assistance Department as well as the Youth Development Department to represent MSCR at various speaking engagements and provide technical assistance to grantees who are part of the Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women Children & Youth Engaging Men Program. He also manages MCSR’s social media outlets and the organization’s website, which he created. Additionally, Will co-facilitates MCSR’s Healthy Masculinity Training Institute and works to foster and build meaningful relationships with other organizations involved in the mission of sexual assault and domestic violence prevention. Finally, Will is an avid reader, a lover of travel, and a cycling enthusiast.
