One narrow privacy-related comment:– I would want to make sure that anyone distributing journals to survivors or otherwise promoting journaling as a tool for victim healing is also taking care to ensure that
the survivors are informed as to the privacy implications of keeping such a journal. For example, if there’s a criminal investigation and/or prosecution, will the survivor be asked about the journal contents? Will the DA subpoena a copy? If the prosecution
accesses it does the survivor understand that the prosecution may be compelled to disclose some or all of the content to the defendant? I’m not saying that journaling is a bad idea -- just that we want to make sure survivors make informed choices! - Jessie From: Irvine, Mahri [mailto:] I’m not familiar with their work (thanks for sharing their website!), but I
love the idea of providing care boxes to survivors when they come to the hospital. While it’s not true that all survivors’ clothes are taken all the time, I think it’s a really sweet, thoughtful idea to provide survivors with a box of resources that
include things like journals, cards telling them that people care about them, toiletries, etc. When I was an advocate, I would have loved to have a box like that to give to survivors, especially survivors who were homeless or low-income. I think it’s a wonderful
idea, and a really neat way to get college students involved in supporting survivors in their communities. From what I read on their website, it sounds like a great mechanism to connect universities, hospitals, and crisis centers.
