Hi everyone,

I coordinate the SART at Trinity College, Hartford, and lead the Women & Gender Resource Action Center (WGRAC). Our SART has been active for approximately 15 years. We have a Title IX Team outside of SART though members overlap. This Team addresses Title IX compliance – policy, education, prevention. As required by state statute we are constructing a Community Resource Team (CRT)  which will have overlapping members with SART and the Team and will oversee progress and make recommendations on policy, prevention and education. The CRT will include representatives from Hartford Police Department (JPD), IPV and sexual assault crisis centers, as well as two student representatives. Our SART currently has outside representation from the rape crisis center and liaisons with HPD via our Campus Safety department. All of our faculty, staff and RAs are Responsible Employees, or mandated reporters. Given this plus the other groups I mentioned SART’s future is unknown at this point. But, because they have received extensive training over a period years their service and expertise is highly valued while we continue training the Responsible Employees. If you have any questions please feel free to email me: . Good luck !

·         What stakeholders attend? Are the meetings open or by invitation? How do you onboard new members?

o   For a list of our members please visit our SART page:  http://www.trincoll.edu/cs/SART/Pages/Members.aspx

o   The meetings are by invitation. Re: new members, we seek to ensure a diverse membership as well as a variety of departments.

·         What is the focus of your group? Is it more about action or advising? How involved in meeting the mission are group members (do they do stuff, or just come to meetings)?

o   Our focus is on improving response but they do receive an update on policy and prevention efforts as well as Title IX issues in general. SART is more about advising than action though their recommendations are taken seriously.  Action and social change comes through our student group, Students Encouraging Consensual Sex, a member of WGRAC. Because we are such a small college all of our members are active in some way in supporting prevention efforts and changing the campus culture.

·         How often do you meet, and for how long?

o   We meet once or twice per semester, depending on need, for an hour or so. If there are training needs that happens outside the meetings.

I coordinate our community SART and one of our projects is a Title IX Working Group. We meet monthly, with a primary goal of enhancing practices and improving coordination when there are co-occurring criminal justice and Title IX responses. We have several higher ed institutions in our jurisdiction. Several campus stakeholders participate (advocates, counselors, Title IX coordinators, investigators, conduct, campus safety and PD), local law enforcement and prosecutors from our sex crimes units and community-based advocates.  I would be happy to discuss with anyone interested in developing this type of collaboration and lessons learned so far.

We’re looking at revamping our campus coalition/task force. For those of you involved in a campus coalition/task force (and especially if you are in a faciliatator or coordinator role):

1.       What stakeholders attend? Are the meetings open or by invitation? How do you onboard new members?

2.       What is the focus of your group? Is it more about action or advising? How involved in meeting the mission are group members (do they do stuff, or just come to meetings)?

3.       Does the group focus on response, prevention, or both?

4.       How often do you meet, and for how long?

Really, any information you have to share is helpful. Thanks!
