Dear All,

UTC is considering creating a program of Faculty/Staff Advisors as an options for victims of SA, DV, and stalking. We currently have a victim advocacy programs with four possible advocates for victims and provide services 24/7. The argument seems to be that students may want additional options. In addition to acting as advisors to victims, some advisors may be be advising the perpetrator (but not at the same time). I have some serious concerns about all this.

  1. I believe we are complicating an already confusing process for victims—duplicate services.
  2. These advisors would not have a role in criminal cases so this could create an issues with a victim having and advisor and then also needing an advocate.
  3. The advisors would be housed under the Dean of Students/Deputy Title IX Coordinator who also oversees the Office of Student Conduct-conflict of interest.
  4. What would their level of confidentiality be, if any?

I have also attached the proposal. If anyone could provide feedback if they use similar programs or provide any additional issues/advantages that I am not seeing, I would appreciate it. Best, Sara

Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day, saying, “I will try again tomorrow.”
