Hi,
I have worked with a variety of individual with a range of intellectual disabilities as a sex therapist consultant, sexuality trainer and health educator and have special training in thos area. Unfortunately, sexual and relationship violence is an all too common experience of children and adults with disabilities.
I am not clear of the exact info you are seeking...some general guidelines I offer are
1. Use all you know and understand about working with survivors...listen, validate, assess needs help and/or refer to another resource which may be more prepared to work with people with disabilities, maintain clear boundries, etc...
2. Establishing trust is even more tricky depending on the individual histories
3. Assess the best way to communicate with the individual...knowing learning style is important here
4. This may be an opportunity to collaborate with other campus and community resources.
If you have other specific questions feel free to contact me directly.
Hope this helps

I would be interested in knowing the answer to this as well and any additional resources available for understanding how to best serve this population for advocacy and response. I’m working with a survivor who has a developmental disability, and I’m wondering if anyone has experience in this area. The student initially disclosed to a faculty member, and thus has triggered our Title IX process. I’m not sure if the
student needs any additional support in a Title IX investigation. If any of you have experience with this, can you email me back and let me know what to be aware of and what to request (if anything)? The student is currently registered with our university
disability services office.
Thanks!
