What if a separate list-serve was created, and we have professional 
association/best practice space such as La Wanza suggests that exists as a 
list-serve at first, and then turns into something on paper once we get 
enough members/constituencies?

Hello everyone, 

I agree that a separate listserv may be warranted so that the initial focus 
of SAPC can be maintained.  I am just returning to working on a college 
campus and have looked to this listserv to catch back up on the dialogue that 
is happening in our field. 

I would gladly participate in a separate listserv focused on the 
implementation of the DCL and Campus SaVE. 

I would also like to work with anyone interested in exploring viable options 
for creating a professional association/best practice space.

Hi all,

I agree that we could possibly use two venues, one that is more broad and one 
that is specifically for professionals working on prevention and response on 
college campuses.  I agree with Angela that this is perhaps the broader list 
right now.  I would be happy to start a more specific list if that would help 
us balance these spaces. It's something I've discussed with several 
professionals before and would likely come up at our RespectCon professional 
summit on 3/27.  I agree with the importance of valuing larger feedback while 
ensuring that we have a space specifically for preventionists and advocates 
on campuses, as we currently lack a professional association/best practice 
space, which is something I'm also hoping we can remedy.

I agree with Claire.  I also loved Katie's suggestion.  But my one concern 
with it is that it may, for some participants, remove the feeling that the 
list is a safe space in which to ask whatever honest questions they have, for 
fear of looking unprofessional or uninformed in front of representatives from 
official government offices.  Even prior to this suggestion, I have wondered 
if we've already reached that point in light of some of the very heated 
debates that have taken place on the listserv.  Some folks may avoid posing a 
question now because they don't want to become the focus of such a debate.  I 
would be willing to join another list such as Claire has suggested.

Here's your moderator weighing in.  I think this is an excellent suggestion, 
but as the person who has to moderate, I could see this turning into a 
full-time job.  And This is something I do on my own.

This list was started so that folks who are working on campus can share 
concerns, questions, etc.  I love the fact that it has helped so many people, 
and that with the implementation of the DCL and Campus SaVE we have a place 
to ask questions.  But this changes the original intent of this list.  If 
that's the case, then maybe what needs to happen is that a broader list is 
started that allows for these larger conversations. We can mass subscribe 
anyone who would like to join that list, and then modify SAPC so that it 
sticks to the original purpose-as a safe space for besieged advocates to get 
support and information.

What do you all think?  It might be that we could use a different platform 
for the larger discussion forum.

Good point, Gina.  I think one option would be to have the moderator and our 
members just be sure to "take discussions" offline more quickly after 2-3 
posts.

I belong to a listserve that discusses sexual assault issues among students

Hi Katie,

Would it be possible for you to create an e-mail template explaining what the 
listserv is all about and stating that we feel that the person we are sending 
it to may have valuable insight, so we would like to invite them to join- and 
then share the template with all of us? We can then forward it on to folks 
who we think could contribute to the ongoing conversation?

My only question is, are we concerned that by inviting lots of other people, 
that the listserv may produce a mass amount of e-mails?  I think the 
conversation is incredibly important, but worry that we may get flooded with 
e-mails and not be able to keep up with all of them.  Is there any way to 
manage this?

I was thinking about the voices we hear on our collective discussions.  I 
find this listserve and the questions posed to be incredibly helpful.
I wondered if anyone else ever thought about the guidance that we may be 
missing and other viewpoints we may not be hearing.

Would it be possible to invites some of the agencies that have the most 
accurate answers on some of the law and policy questions to our group?
We seem to have 2 or 3 attorneys who provide their opinions and thoughts 
quite frequently; and information passed along from primary sources through 
secondary means.
Perhaps, we might want other perspectives from attorneys who represent 
schools and as well as those who represent victims.

Does anyone else think this would be helpful in keeping us all best-informed?
