Wade,
If you look at Koss' research from her original project in the 80's, particularly as elucidated in "I Never Called It Rape" by Robin Warshaw, you will find that issue specifically addressed. Koss found that upwards of 25% of survivors continued having contact with their assailants.  I've come to the conclusion that this is about "rewriting" the script.  As a friend told me, who had done the exact same thing, it's a way of reclaiming the assault and changing it in your head to a consensual act.  I've also spoken with other women who have said that they just assumed that they were now required to continue a relationship (typically with more traditional views of gender relations), and that they were headed to a permanent relationship, desired or not—o effectively they were now trapped by fate.  This phenomenon syncs well with the wonderful presentation by Becki Campbell—I completely agree, it is one of the clearest, sensible presentation on the neuropsychology of sexual trauma I've encountered.  For those who missed the last post about this, here's the link: Watch Dr. Campbell's presentation.  I find that the NIJ sends out very interesting resources (most of which isn't in our area) that are free and accessible.  Campbell's presentation, for example, can be used by others as long as credit is given—instructions are there for your information.
Best,
Claire
