Dear Colleague,

The Stalking Resource Center of the National Center for Victims of Crime and the Safety Net Project of the National Network to End Domestic Violence are excited to present two new training events:

Use of Technology in Intimate Partner Stalking Conference
September 17-19, 2013
Little Rock, AR

This foundational conference will feature an array of nationally renowned trainers on the issues of intimate partner stalking and technology, including experts from the fields of law enforcement and victim services. You will learn how offenders use various technologies to stalk, how to document technology misuse, how to investigate and build a stalking case, and how to work with victims to enhance their safety. This conference will provide an opportunity to network with your colleagues from across the country and discuss challenges facing practitioners in this field.

Participants will gain a basic understanding of how various technologies are used by stalkers and how to enhance community responses to stalking.

Topics to be covered include:

  • How stalkers manipulate technology including:
    • Global Positioning Systems (GPS)
    • Computers
    • Cameras
    • Cell phones
  • Documenting technology misuse
  • Effective investigation strategies
  • Safety planning and advocacy with victims

Registration is free of charge. Attendees are responsible for covering all of their own travel costs. Please note that priority for registration for both events is given to grantees of the U.S. Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women.

Use of Technology in Intimate Partner Stalking Advanced Training
September 19-20
Little Rock, AR

Immediately following the September 17-19, 2013 conference, we will be holding 1.5-day advanced training on the Use of Technology in Intimate Partner Stalking.

This hands-on skill building training is intended for criminal justice professionals only (including law enforcement, prosecutors, and community corrections officers). This training will provide essential information on the documentation, collection, and preservation of cell phone and computer evidence and will greatly enhance attendees’ ability to investigate cases where technology is misused as a tool in stalking.

Session descriptions are as follows:

  • Evidence Collection of Technology Based Stalking
This session will provide information and tips on evidence preservation and collection for various technologies. It will include tracing IP addresses as well as turning technology on the offenders.
  • Mobile Phone Seizure Certification
BKForensics, a provider of cell phone forensic solutions to law enforcement and security professionals, will provide this 4-hour training on best practices for mobile phone seizure. The session will cover where cell phone-related evidence may be found, how to collect cell phones devices, methods for the preservation of data and evidence, and transporting and packaging cell phones as evidence. Participants will have the opportunity to take an examination at the end of the session to receive the certification in mobile phone seizure.
  • Field Search: A Free Tool for Computer Examinations
This session will instruct participants on how to use a free computer examination tool, Field Search, to collect evidence. Field Search was developed by the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center (NLECTC) and was designed for use in the field by non-technical criminal justice personnel to allow for quick and efficient search of a target computer with a detailed report of findings.

In order to register for this training, you will have to have attended the foundation conference held immediately prior to this training or another foundational training provided by the SRC or NNEDV.

Registration is free of charge. Attendees are responsible for covering all of their own travel costs. Please note that priority for registration for both events is given to grantees of the U.S. Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women.
