Buried in the AP coverage of the settlement in Montana, DEAL
REACHED IN MONT. U SEX ASSAULT PROBE was a small section on
the second page about the local prosecutor *not* being part of the
settlement. "[The local prosecutor]
doesn't believe the Justice Department has the legal authority to
investigate his office's decisions on which cases he decides to
prosecute or not." *If that link doesn't work, the article can be found at: http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_UNIVERSITY_SEXUAL_ASSAULT?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT Making prosecutors accountable for the cases they decline has been an issue close to my heart for many years. My latest effort to do that is being hampered by the fact that there is only one non-competitive newspaper in town, and they refuse to cover the controversy. To publicize what I am doing locally, but also issues that I think many of us share, I have posted the documents on my website. I am asking people who also believe that prosecutors who avoid "difficult" cases are hindering their work to link to BATTLE on their Facebook pages, websites etc. to spread the word. *if my hot button doesn't work, the url is http://alicevachss.com/lcda.html |
