In doing research regarding the process for adjudicating cases of sexual
misconduct, it seems that many schools are moving toward having a hearing
process, and that hearing process including students. Currently, that is not
what Goucher does, although because it seems to be thought of as "best
practice," we are considering making that transition.
Could anyone share opinions/school policy/pros and cons of this process? What
is seen as the "value" of having students on the hearing panel? There is a
concern, because of the size of our school in particular, (1500 students)
that students on the hearing panel would serve as a deterrence for reporting.
