Good timing – this was just sent out by a staff member earlier this week.  See below.

This is a scene that I’ve mentioned a couple of times as being very powerful.

It’s from the movie Speak, we have the book in our program.  Around time 6:15, the rapist confronts the victim and tries to assault her again.  The field hockey team (love the strength they have!) confronts him and protects her.  It’s a powerful image of not only a victim holding someone accountable, but a community.  Obviously, there are many ways that our clients could do this.  I’m not sure if the clip is enough to understand what happened, but she was very isolated before this and hadn’t spoken much for most of the year at school.  The entire movie is fabulous in how much emotion it conveys and evokes, so I highly recommend it.  It can definitely be triggering for clients.

What a great thread this is. I would like to add to the list audio podcasts from my two favorite NPR programs, This American Life and Radiolab, which both address elements of bystander behavior:

This American Life - Save the Day

Radiolab - The Good Show - in particular the "I Need A Hero" segment
http://www.radiolab.org/2010/dec/14/

Though it isn't specific to bystander behavior, Radiolab's The Bad Show has useful content that reflects on our work:

Best,

Chad
