Dear Colleagues,

At Emory, we've seen a large increase in students seeking support from my program this year due to increased outreach, engagement, and the first year of a student peer advocacy organization. This is great news, as part of the mission of my program is to increase disclosure and student access to support and resources.  The number of anonymous reports for Clery and students coming forward to the police and conduct board have, as a result, also increased.  I have a feeling the number of reports and crime alerts will continue to increase the more education we provide.

I'm wondering how, if your institution has experienced this, you addressed this issue either proactively or reactively.  Increased reporting can make students feel more unsafe, even if you spread the word that increased reporting does NOT mean an increase in incidents. If you have struggled with this balance on your campus, I would love to get your thoughts either via email or phone.

Thank you so much for your support and help.

My best,
LB
