Hi Marcie, I suggest checking with the national hotlines. For example, calls to the U.S. National Sexual Assault Hotline are answered by a RAINN member center (see http://www.rainn.org/get-help/national-sexual-assault-hotline), and there may be training standards these member centers must meet. RAINN also offers several online training programs here: http://rainntrain.org/ . There are several contact names listed on this page: http://www.rainn.org/get-involved/rape-crisis-center-information. Canada may have a similar setup. If you want to see examples of crisis line evaluations in a different area, the U.S. National Suicide Prevention Lifeline has undergone several evaluation studies. While these aren’t evaluations of the training itself, the results have led to required practice standards which presumably shape the training of volunteers. For more information, see http://www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org/CrisisCenters/PracticeStandards.aspx. I’m not sure if the network has evaluated the training programs themselves. Just found an abstract for an evaluation of RAINN’s hotline: Volunteer and user evaluation of the National Sexual Assault Online Hotline that has one conclusion related to training: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0149718910000807 . Also try searching on “evaluation of training for hotline volunteers” in Google scholar – you’ll have to wade through the results, but I think it starts to get you closer to the issues you are interested in. From: Marcie Campbell [mailto:] Hi, My name is Marcie Campbell and I am the research associate for an online Learning Network that the Centre for Research and Education on Violence Against Women and Children in London, Ontario, Canada is implementing. I recently sent out an email asking if anyone knew of any information on training curriculum for peer support/non-therapist support for victims of sexual violence and if this training has been developed by evaluated resources or if the training itself has been evaluated. I have already received some responses thank you. One thing that I have noticed is that much of the research is on bystander prevention training and not necessarily front line support. I am curious to know if there is any training for non-therapists that engage with actual victims (for example, what would an employer do to provide support for one of their employees that disclosed sexual assault). I feel that there is not much out there on this topic, especially empirically supported. I am wondering if there is empirically supported training for crisis line workers. Have you heard about anything like this? Thank you so much for your response. I appreciate it. Sincerely, Marcie Campbell
