Hi Connie,
I created something call SNET on our campus. The promo blurb I send out
sounds something like this:
Victims of interpersonal violence (IPV) often have a difficult time talking
about the abuse they have experienced at the hands of someone they trusted.
Survivors often hesitate to report IPV to authorities, counselors and
advocates and may instead seek guidance from people they look up to. The
purpose of SNet training is to arm individuals who are likely to receive
reports with the information necessary to help survivors make the best
choices for their situation.
The idea for this type of network was formulated by Claire Kaplan from the
University of Virginia Women's Center and is modeled after the SafeZone
Program, a nationally recognized program to identify "gay friendly" faculty
and staff who provide support and resources to gay, lesbian and bisexual
students. We provide a laminated card that looks similar to the SAFE ZONE
card in size for people who have been through training to put on their office
doors or cubicles.
We identified the following learning outcomes:
Participants will be able to:
o define sexual violence, dating violence and stalking
o list common victim/perpetrator behaviors.
o identify appropriate ways to respond to someone who discloses an
incident of interpersonal violence.
o identify campus resources available to a student who believes she/he
has been a victim of interpersonal violence.
o identify federal reporting requirements for the information received
by a faculty or staff member.
Why the name S.Net? S.Net - a network of individuals providing Support,
Safety, Service, Sensitivity to SRU Students or other Staff who are Survivors
of Sexual violence, partner violence, and Stalking.
I'd be happy to pass along the manual and powerpoint if you think this is
something that you can adjust to your campus.
Enjoy your day,
karla

Subject: Training for Faculty
Hello Colleagues,
I am looking for methods to enhance training and education for our
faculty and staff at Saint Mary's College. This training would target
individuals who may witness the impact of violence on students or have
students disclose experiences to them. However, providing support is not
a primary responsibility within their positions. I would like the
training to increase the knowledge base of participants as well as teach
basic intervention skills.
If you have materials you have found beneficial for your campuses or
recommendations for programming models, please send them my way.
Thanks in advance!
Peace,
Connie
