Dear colleagues:
I have bittersweet news to share with all of you. After 10 years at the
Georgia Tech Women’s Resource Center, serving as part of an incredible
movement to create a supportive and inclusive environment for women, I was
offered the opportunity to take on a new role within Georgia Tech, and I have
accepted the promotion to the Director of Outreach and Student Affairs at
Georgia Tech Savannah. I started the new position in January.
The support of women's center colleagues across the country has been
invaluable for the growth of the Women's Resource Center at Georgia Tech and
for my personal and professional development (and sanity). It has been a
tremendous experience for me to be part of this community. My hope is to
continue my involvement with NWSA and the Women's Centers community. Of
course, there are issues of gender inequity everywhere and I've already began
building my network in the Savannah area, but I want to remain connected with
colleagues who continue to do this work daily.
I also want to encourage you to consider applying for the Director position
at Georgia Tech. For those of you in Student Affairs, it's an Assistant Dean
position which combines the opportunity to advance in Student Affairs and
continue women's center work. The position description and application
process are online. Many of you have witnessed the growth of this center over
the years - so many things have changed on our campus and I'm proud to know
that the WRC was at the forefront of improving the climate for women. Take
Back the Night draws more than 800 students each year. The Women's Leadership
Conference is a model to other schools. The VOICE sexual violence prevention
and response program includes strong involvement from students and colleagues
throughout the campus, including sorority women. More policies and procedures
are in place to support women and the WRC is seen as a vibrant, established
part of the GT community. I was even interviewed by GT Living History
Program to record the WRC's role at Georgia Tech - it was an incredible honor
and fitting end to my official role with the center.
Please help continue the legacy of the WRC.
