The University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for the
Associate Director of Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention. The Associate
Director assists the director in the oversight of the CROSSROADS and CARE
programs. CROSSROADS, UNCW’s Substance Abuse Prevention & Education Program,
is dedicated to harm reduction and environmental approaches and was named a
Promising Model Program by the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools in 2009.
The UNCW Collaboration for Assault Response and Education intervenes on a
broad spectrum of violent behaviors, including sexual assault, relationship
abuse, stalking and harassment.  CARE offers a comprehensive variety of
violence prevention and relationship education programs, trainings, and
educational campaigns to the UNCW campus.  CARE respond to students who have
been victimized, as well as those affected by someone else’s experience with
abuse or assault, by providing supportive services, including crisis
response, individual advocacy and coordination with both on-campus and
off-campus resources.  These programs have received over 1.5 million dollars
in grant funding since 2004.



The Associate Director acts as the head of the CARE unit in its role of
providing violence prevention programs and response services to the campus
community. The position also supervises a professional victim advocate, a
prevention coordinator, graduate and undergraduate students. The Associate
Director participates in crisis on-call rotation and provides supervision to
the crisis response and advocacy services.  Coordinating and delivering
innovative prevention and education programs to students, faculty, and
staff, including targeted outreach to special student populations, is also
an expectation. The position acts as the program manager of a federal grant.



A Masters degree in counseling, psychology, education, higher education
administration, or social work is required.  Candidates must have a minimum
of 3 years of professional experience in the collegiate environment, but
five years or more is preferred. Other preferred qualifications include
experience in violence prevention, crisis response, program planning, public
speaking, grant management, student leader development and supervision, and
a demonstrated commitment to the values of cultural and ethnic diversity.
