Hello All,
 We are examining our No Contact Order (NCO) policy here and were
wondering what other schools have in place. Currently, we have what is
called a Cease & Desist order, which is basically a request that all
parties involved have no further contact with each other for a specified
length of time. The cease and desist is not viewed as a judicial
sanction, it is a neutral, two-way, mutual no contact order. Any student
can request a cease & desist, however, it is up to the dean's office
(undergraduate or graduate) to decide whether to issue these orders. If
any student breaks the boundaries of the cease and desist, s/he is
subject to disciplinary action including a warning, probation, etc. 
 
Specifically, questions which have arisen include:
 
1) What are the parameters of NCOs on your campus (i.e., considered
neutral vs. a judicial sanction, mutual vs. one-way)?
2) If a student requests a NCO, does this trigger any sort of on-campus
disciplinary inquiry/investigation based on the information provided by
the student requesting the
    order? Or, is this request treated as a separate option available to
survivors? 
3) What is the threshold required for issuing a NCO? What do you convey
to the student whom the order has been requested against?
4) What office on your campus issues NCOs?
5) What are the consequences on your campus if a NCO is broken by either
party (survivor or accused offender)? 
6) Does your school have a standard NCO template or is each order
tailored to the specific situation?
