this is such wonderful information and exactly why i so much appreciate
listservs like this! Any thoughts on the "innocent victim" part? That
really throws me off...

I should add that during her case against the city/police, she called herself
"Jane Doe" to protect her anonymity. She is from a small town in Connecticut
and everyone had already read all about her case in the newspapers. The
police believed she was covering up an affair because of a baseless anonymous
tip call. Rumors were flying around the town and she wanted to protect her
identity. In calling her agency "Jane Doe No More" she was literally lifting
her own anonymity and focussing on her strength and survival.
