I had Donna Palomba, founder of Jane Doe No More,
Inc. on our campus this past April for Sexual
Assault Awareness Month. I strongly recommend her
and her work. I think the most helpful thing to do
first is go to the website and read her story. It
is pretty astounding and involved. Her PTSD came
primarily NOT from her rape, but from the police
telling her later that she made it all up to cover
up an affair (which was not true). Her rapist
turned out to be a family friend who knew her
husband would be out of town. He was eventually
caught and convicted for other crimes against other
women, but the statute of limitations had passed and
he could no longer be charged with her rape. She
sued the police department for how they handled her
case, and won. And now she is working
collaboratively with them and several other agencies
to advocate for change on a large scale. There was
a Dateline NBC episode about her case which the
agency will provide if you are considering showing
it for education or having her come to your campus
as a guest speaker.
Hope this helps.
