Hi all-
We worked with our local Women's Shelter and the local Coordinated
Community Response Coalition (ccrc) on a workshop for bartenders and bar
owners about the frequency of DFR in our city, and how wait staff and
bartenders can intervene. This year we're printing mini ping pong balls
with the message "Watch your drink" for wait staff to put in unattended
drinks at participating bars. The training last year was really good
and very well received by bartenders in our area. Our rape crisis
supervisor at our local women's shelter is connected with area bands and
bar owners, so she arranged for the training to be held in a bar during
the day when it would normally be closed. We had our PD there, Texas
Alcoholic Beverage Commission, and about 5 bartenders from 5 different
clubs. There were TONS of CCRC people there, though.

Subject: Drug Facilitated Rape
Here's one idea that's a little off the wall, but just thought I'd throw
it out there, as it's been used previously. Last year New Mexico was
determined to try to curb drinking and driving. Since men were
overwhelmingly the DWI offenders in New Mexico, they decided to put
talking urinal cakes in bars & restaurants that delivered a message when
the urinals were used. Could this same technology be utilized to deliver
a message to men regarding drug facilitated rape? Below is a link that
describe the technology utilized in New Mexico:
