Hi Ross,
My first gut response would be that I would want the documentary to take time
to portray the different levels of prevention work and how sometimes what we
are asked to do either by funders or by higher ups, or by the community in
general does not match what we know would actually make a difference. Of
course, to spend the whole time on that could be depressing and there isn't
an easy answer to conclude with anyway, but it would be neat if they could
touch on it among portraying all of the wonderful and exciting things you all
are doing on a day-to-day basis.
I hope that helps :)

Hello everyone,
I work at a large university with a couple of fairly well-established
peer sexual violence educator programs. Recently, I had a student-facilitator
of mine who was interested in creating a documentary about the "experience"
of sexual assault prevention education on our campus. Given that this is a
peer ed program, there are lots of aspects (peer educator training, workshop
facilitation, personal lives of facilitators during change, etc.) that could
be focused on.
My student wants this film to be useful to either 1) tell the story of
the work that I believe is happening on many college campuses, or 2) to help
those of us who are doing this work to continue doing it better. That said, I
have a question for folks on this list. If someone was going to create a
documentary that would be about/for you, what would you want it to
accomplish? I know everyone is really busy right now, so don't worry about
being too specific, I'm just looking for your gut responses. Thanks & good
luck at the start of this semester!
In peace,
Ross

Hello all!
It's been unsettling, but I've seen the statement "people focus on date
rape, when sexual assault/abuse/violence also happens without force" pop
up a couple of times on these listservs, and I just wanted to be sure to
point out that date rape also often occurs without force (be it
physical, verbal, threats of violence, etc.). Any kind of sexual
violence can occur without the use of force, and we all know that
society uses lack of force to blame the survivor for what happened and
to discount the survivor's report of the sexual violence.
So I just wanted to reiterate this point, as statements like the one
above have surfaced several times in the past week.
Thank you, and thank you for all of the work you do to end sexual
violence!
