Description:
There are approximately 7 billion people on the planet right now, with 3.5 billion of them being women. About a third of those women will beaten or raped in her lifetime. That is 1 billion souls. Most of this violence goes unheard. There may not be a clear way to prevent these atrocities, but this does not mean that nothing can be done.
Spectrum Theatre first began performing the Vagina Monologues in 2008. The show is funny and it is sad, filled with stories of struggle and the ultimate triumph of survivors. Now, as we enter our fifth year performing this wonderful show, the V-Day movement begun by Eve Ensler, award winning playwright and activist, is starting a revolution. One billion women abused in their lifetime is the brutal reality we, as a species, face today. One Billion Rising is revolution of both men and women standing together to demand an end to the violence that hurts all of us. It is a movement that gain momentum around the globe: from Africa, through Asia, across oceans to the Americas, women and men are banning together to show their support for the victims and survivors of abuse.
