Description: Welcome to Hoos for Refugees (HFR)!

Unbeknownst to many UVA students, Charlottesville is a major center for refugees in the United States. The International Rescue Committee assists many of these individuals, but not all needs can be met by this solitary organization. We aim to provide the extra assistance that they need.

Our organization has three main goals.

1. We aim for these refugees to become comfortable with their new environment and transition into American culture.

2. We build the English-language skills of these students in order for them to achieve higher goals that are prevented by the language-barrier.

3. We strive for a community between the refugees of Charlottesville and UVA students that fosters cultural understanding and appreciation.
