bmi24-25 - Black Male Initiative 2024-2025

Subject: Black Male Initiative 2024-2025

Description: Established in 2011, the Luther Porter Jackson Black Male Initiative (BMI) was created for the expressed purpose of increasing the academic and social success of Black male students through increasing interaction and dialogue between Black male students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Recently, the program has been expanded to include more involvement with communities outside of the university, including Charlottesville and Albermarle. BMI focuses on the academic and life issues of Black males ranging from retention to economic empowerment to accountability. We seek to utilize the diversity of cultural, political, and sociological perspectives that exist among Black men to create productive co-curricular activities for its participants.
