Subject: Peer Mentor

Description: Black Girls United is an organization that will pair first-year black female students with second-year students of the same demographic. The goal is to go farther than the “big and little sister" aspect in some of the organizations on grounds. We plan to build relationships with students before they even step foot on grounds in order to welcome them to a new and seemingly scary environment with open arms. We pair students through their interests and personal facts based on the application they will fill out. Throughout the year, there will be bonding events held such as self-care nights, group dinners, and game nights to strengthen these connections between students. Overall, our mission is to give these students the vital presence in their lives that is a girl close in age, that they can relate to, who can guide them through the ins and outs of the first-year experience and insure a positive first impression of the University of Virginia.
