Hello VAA!
For this week's meeting we will have Mason Scott leading a talk and discussion about the idea of God (blurb below). The meeting will be this Thursday, April 12th, at 7pm in New Cabell 415.
Also, VAA will be having elections in the next few weeks, so get excited! We plan on going to IHOP after that meeting. We will be selecting the President and Vice President. I hope all of you come out and participate in the elections either by voting or running! Stay tuned for more info!
Hope to see you all there!

BLURB:
There is many notions or what we could call values that we have placed on the idea of god. We have called him the man in the sky, the all powerful entity, the sacred, and the ultimate being. But many people, including many of those who are attending this lecture, that do not sit well with these notions. One right off the bat is the idea that god is a male, another is that it is above us, and many examples can be dissected and criticised within the bible (examples of Noah, Job, Adam and Eve, turning people into salt for looking at their city burn to the ground). One man in particular had many grievances with the traditions associated with god and that mans name is Spinoza. Spinoza held the view that there is no separate entity called god that exists outside the self or the universe as a whole. Rather, if there is a god it is the actual substance of the universe in which we are all a part of. In the most simplistic of terms if the universe were a pond we would be droplets and the entire pond would be god, the substance.
