Hey VAA,

First, thanks to everyone for coming out to Andy Thomson's talk on the placebo effect. And special thanks to the officers and others who helped to organize and promote it; I hope you have seen the impact that your work can have.

This week, we will be visited by three ghosts a philosophy graduate student, John Mahlan, who will present an argument that is philosophically popular among theists: The Evolutionary Argument Against Naturalism. What is naturalism you ask? It is the viewpoint that our universe can be fully explained by natural laws (those investigated by science), as opposed to any "supernatural" phenomena like gods, souls, or spirits. Most atheists are naturalists, while theists are not. The argument against naturalism, that John will discuss with us us, asserts that believing that humans are the product of evolution undermines naturalism --- checkmate atheists!

So, do join us to check the consistency of your beliefs and participate in a thoughtful discussion. Time and location below.

Monroe 130, 7:00 P.M., Tues, 3/19

Lastly: if you are a regular member and have not paid the year's $10 dues...well, you should! At our meeting! It will helps us plan the semester's remaining events and festivities.

Sincerely,

John Kubinski
VAA President
