Hey VAAers,

In preparation for blasphemy day on Thursday, which we've informed you about, our Tuesday meeting will also be blasphemy themed. We'll be talking about why it's important to raise awareness about anti-blasphemy laws and related cultural practices, and we'll also be discussing some of the blasphemy cases around the world that deserve our attention.

In addition to being informative, we hope the topic will prompt discussion as well. The issue of blasphemy could have implications for how we (culturally and politically) interact with other nations (see Sam Harris' popular piece: http://www.samharris.org/blog/item/on-the-freedom-to-offend-an-imaginary-god ).

Also, we can talk about how exactly we want to be blasphemous on blasphemy day when we table this Thursday. Come with ideas if you can!

Our meeting will be at:

New Cabell 411, 7:00 P.M., Tues 9/25

Speaking freely,

John Kubinski
VAA President
