Dear members of the Silence list,
I would like to share a recently published bilingual artistic-research essay:
John Cage and Musica d’Arte in Florence / John Cage e la Musica d’Arte a Firenze
Chance, Silence, Sign, Gesture and Vision: From Graphic Scores to Generative Systems
The essay examines John Cage as an international precedent and interlocutor for the Florentine constellation of composers, performers, and visual artists associated with Sylvano Bussotti, Giuseppe Chiari, Giancarlo Cardini, Daniele Lombardi, Pietro Grossi, and Sergio Maltagliati.
It includes a section on Cage’s documented presence in Florence on 21 June 1992, at the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini, and considers the transition from chance operations, open notation, and performative indeterminacy to computer-based and generative systems.
No visual works by John Cage are reproduced in the publication. The essay refers readers to institutional sources where Cage’s works may be consulted legally.
