Dear Silencers

Thought you might like to know of some discs just out that I’m particularly proud of, relevant to the silence list.

CC : John Cage – Concert for Piano and Orchestra / Christian Wolff – Resistance

Two thrilling ensemble pieces, one classic and one brand new, both performed by Apartment House. The performance of Cage’s Concert for Piano and Orchestra represents some sustained engagement with the work over several years, and is presented here in a version for all players and conductor, following an earlier performance at the University of Leeds. Christian Wolff’s ‘Resistance’ was commissioned by Apartment House as a companion piece to Cage’s Concert. It’s a major work by a composer with whom Apartment House have worked for many year, and reflects a number of Wolff’s social and notational concerns. (Huddersfield Contemporary Records, HCR16CD) https://www.nmcrec.co.uk/huddersfield-contemporary-records/cc

And on Another Timbre (at118), a new recording of John Cage’s ‘Winter Music’, performed by Mark Knoop, Catherine Laws, John Tilbury and myself. http://www.anothertimbre.com/cagewintermusic.html

Thanks for reading!
Philip
