...as John would say.

Thinking of what may be ahead of us this year -
especially those of us in the U.S. and Britain -
I am drawn back toward the following webpage
that features Esther Ferrer's letter to John Cage
from 1991. It seems to be a good place to start
(re)thinking our place in a larger social sense.
It is from the Anarchic Harmony website.

desánimo = despondency

As many of you know, Andrew Culver is associated with that site
and it got me thinking about the end of this August when he will
be turning 64 - the total number of hexagrams in the I Ching -
which, in turn got me thinking of a project that could involve an
electronic sound-text piece of creative means that would require,
for instance, a chance-derived number of produced hexagrams;
then chance-derived specific hexagrams that would refer to the
various years of his life of which he would audio record his memories -
possibly a minute each in length - of that particular year in his life
that would be elements used in the overall indeterminate electronic
alterations of his voice. I've other ideas for dealing with various other
elements, but this is only a sketched idea for now. Details can come...

Hoping all of you will find joy in the new year
with the possibility of the Ferrer text opening up
a kind of mental window for you and your future endeavors.

best to you,

Rod
