the anecdote is in david toop's ocean of sound, at the end of chapter 5 ("content in a void").

i think i recall reading somewhere that cage made an environmental recording - in a park? - that he listended to
repeatedly over the ensuing weeks, to the point he could anticipate every sound… making the recording familiar, like
a composition - does anyone know if this is close to a correct memory, and if so where he said or wrote this story?
