This Friday would have been John Cage's 102nd Birthday.

Avant Media kicks off a new season of intrepid programming with a celebration for John. This anniversary concert, taking place at Wild Project (195 East 3rd Street) will feature performances of Cage's landmark indeterminate composition, Song Books, performed by Avant Music Festival composers past, present and future (including Randy Gibson, Eve Beglarian, Nick Hallett, Paula Matthusen, and John King) as well as performers such as Nicole Camacho, Vicky Chow, Megan Schubert, and Nate Wooley.

Avant Media has long been celebrating John Cage's life and work with performances during the annual Avant Music Festival, including 2013's Apartment House 1776 which was hailed by The New York Times as "celebrat[ing] uncompromising originality and collaboration in a way that felt distinctly American."
