I just wanted to forward along the latest update from our Beyond Cage festival, taking place Oct. 22 - Nov. 7 in NYC. The festival includes the complete material of Atlas Eclipticalis – 90 minutes, 86 instruments – with Ursula Oppens & Joseph Kubera playing Winter Music simultaneously. This one's at Carnegie Hall, Isaac Stern Auditorium.

The program also includes Music of Changes and Concert for Piano and Orchestra (Joseph Kubera / piano), Freeman Etudes (Conrad Harris / violin), percussion works (Talujon Percussion), and 103 (Janacek Philharmonic Ostrava).

In addition to the Cage, there's a program of major orchestra works by Morton Feldman that some of you might be interested in – including the American Premieres of both Flute and Orchestra and Violin and Orchestra.

thanks all,

Andrew Smith / S.E.M. Ensemble

"Creating a program for a festival, or even a program for a concert, is like cooking a meal."

Petr Kotik introduces the Beyond Cage festival in his own words, with video excerpts of performances of Morton Feldman's Flute and Orchestra and Lucie Vítková's Accept, from Ostrava Days 2011, in addition to audio recordings of The Orchestra of the S.E.M. Ensemble performing John Cage's Atlas Eclipticalis(with David Tudor at the piano). Check it out, and follow us on Twitter & Facebook for new postings of videos in the coming weeks.

SEM's John Cage recordings available for streaming & download

Atlas Eclipticalis & Winter Music and 103 by John Cage is still available online for listening and download, a rare full recording of two of Cage's most remarkable works for orchestra. Performers include The Orchestra of the S.E.M. Ensemble (David Tudor / piano, Petr Kotik / conductor) and the Janacek Philharmonic Ostrava, who will be performing the last two concerts of Beyond Cage.
