Dear Silence List Readers in the Los Angeles area, Vir2Ual Cage, the California Institute of the Arts, and over thirty participating performers cordially invite you to The Long Books: John Cage’s Complete Song Books on Sunday, 5 February 2012 from 4:00–8:00 p.m. at CalArts in Valencia, CA. Admission will be free. This unique event will occupy several spaces simultaneously: CalArts’ Main Gallery, L-Shaped Gallery, Roy O. Disney Hall and the foyer outside it, the reception area at the building’s main entrance, and possibly elsewhere among hallways, stairwells, balconies, etc. The audience is invited to roam at will. This performance will be among the very few in the history of Song Books that promises to include at least parts of all the work's ninety “solos for voice.” Also performed will be several compositions of indeterminate music, including passages from Cage’s Concert for Piano and Orchestra. Participating artists will include CalArts faculty, alumni, students, and special guests. For more information about this performance, as well as the team that’s producing it, please see www.vir2ualcage.org. Mark Bobak |
