Hi Juliette, I have not been in the exact situation you described but we did have a social justice award and one of my previous faculty mentors was a recipient and came out publicly and support of kavanaugh and said some pretty awful things on social about his accuser.
Folks approached us and asked us to officially strip him of the award and we had a lot of conversation about that. The award was one that we hadn't done for nearly a decade so most people don't really know about it it wasn't something that we were interested in doing the future. We ultimately decided not to go in that direction.
However, I think in this case you have someone with information that would be important for someone who is uplifting that individual to strongly consider. I'm hopeful that they would be reasonable and recognize that this is too harmful to continue on with. I'm happy to chat more on the phone if that's helpful.

==============Hello SAPC -I am working with someone who is an adult survivor of child sexual abuse by a family member. The abuser died almost 25 years ago, however they were an "esteemed" professor and the university he worked at has a scholarship named in his honor. The survivor knows of at least one other person he abused, and as we all know, it is extremely likely that there are many others. The survivor never told anyone until recently and would like the university to know so that they can consider naming the scholarship after someone else.Questions: Have you all dealt with an endowment or scholarship named after an abuser? If so, or even if not, who would you recommend the survivor notify for potential action? I originally thought of Title IX/OIED folks, but wanted to hear if you all had any advice/thoughts on how to notify the university as effectively and safely as possible.Thank you,Juliette--Peace,Juliette Grimmett, MPH | She, her, hersFounder, Chrysalis NetworkSexual Assault Victim Policy Strategist, NC DOJRaleigh, NC(919) 624-9575
